Wallace Roney

"Not only is he Miles Davis' designated heir and the only trumpet player Miles ever took under his wing, Wallace Roney has enjoyed the friendship and mentoring of some the most illustrious figures in modern jazz: Dizzy Gillespie, Clark Terry, Ornette Coleman, Freddie Hubbard and Woody Shaw, just to name a few. Since his early years as a member of drummer Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers, and in drummer Tony Williams' band, as well as touring with such demanding pianists as Herbie Hancock and McCoy Tyner, Roney has successfully brought together the many influences of his elders while keeping his attention focused on growth and evolution. Equipped with formidable technique, driven by a thirst for constant innovation, Roney the trumpeter now stands among the major keepers of the sacred flame on the contemporary jazz scene: an acclaimed leader and artist always in exploratory mode."
